Dell Monitor Prices
October 25th, 2011
vishki I’m thinking of hooking an external LCD/LED monitor to my laptop so that I can use both lcd display and monitor simultaneously(current laptops allow this by default). This kind of setup is very useful for working on some projects. We can have one window in one display and work on other in the second display. This also allows me to watch some online news channels in one display while i’m working on the second. Read the rest of this entry »
MNP Journal : Moving from Airtel to Idea
October 25th, 2011
vishki
After a long relation with Airtel, it’s finally time to move out to a new operator and I’m moving to Idea Cellular. I’m currently a post paid customer in Airtel and will be taking a post paid plan in Idea.
Whats the reason? There is a serious signal issue with Airtel at the place where I spend most part of my life. Every single call, drops. This is not a remote place, this is happening at a prime location, at the centre of Hyderabad. I hardly have any call without a drop. Though airtel is my primary number, I’m using a second BSNL number currently to make and receive calls. I do not want to use multiple numbers, so decided to move to Idea with the same number. Nokia 500 Review
October 12th, 2011
vishki Introduction
Nokia 500 is Nokias new mantra for regaining its position in the entry level smartphone market. Priced at Rs.10,000/-(Euro 150 approximately) and sporting a fast 1 gig processor there seems to be a big market awaiting this phone. I was personally waiting for the phone from the day it was announced. I was waiting for a low cost capacitive Nokia to replace the good old Nokia 5800 XM. I posted 5800 in classifieds the very same day 500 was announced and unfortunately someone picked it up immediately and we were using an intermediate basic phone for weeks before getting the 500. Almost all modern day pcs access internet at some point and virus can infect the pc from a website we visit, or a mail we open. An Anti-Virus software is a must have on any pc.
There are a lot of free and commercial anti-virus programs in the market. For a home pc, a good free anti-virus program makes Read the rest of this entry »

Joining .001 .002 … files to a single file
September 1st, 2011
vishki When we try to download large files, say 2gb or 3gb, we often end up with multiple files with extensions like .001, .002 …. .999. These extensions normally indicate a large file being split into multiple parts using some software like hjsplit. You can use free applications like hjsplit, 7-zip etc to combine these parts and create the original large file. Since most people do not have these softwares installed on their machines, you get “select a program to open” dialog when you Read the rest of this entry »
Nokia X1-01 dual sim mobile unboxing and review
June 20th, 2011
vishki Nokias first true dual sim phone X1-01 has hit the market. This is the latest addition to Nokias X series music centric devices. Nokia initially ignored the dual sim market and it lost a major market share due to this in the low end market. Nokias ignorance of dual sim market costed it a lot but has been a boon to chinese mobile manufacturers and local players like Micromax, Karbonn.
